A Prayer For the Persecuted

The truth is whispered in the wind. A lone eagle screeches Calling out "Remember the persecuted". Men, women and children cast out Into the Scottish winter. Despairing to God Sheep now graze Over the dereliction. Scottish blood Still spatters the heather. Amen

this was obviously a tragedy in the history of your country. So sad that these things happened and even today, such things continue to happen in the world. I enjoyed this and I hope it will get other comments because it is a good poem.

Thank you for your lovely comments. The clearances in Scotland were terrible. The landowners turned the families out of their homes for the purpose of grazing sheep which would be more lucrative. A lot of American citizens have Scottish ancestors. I am not Scottish but have moved here. I have a lot of Welsh relatives - which makes me rather sheepish.
