I received the portrait as a Christmas message in my visit to a confirmation class. I just had to write something of an appreciation for it. I hope that what I have written touches you in the same way without seeing the actual portrait.
In a portrait of Jesus,
I saw - drawn -
His Birth to His Death and Resurrection.
The Artist using His beard and long hair,
to illustrate events in His life.
I found the portrait fascinating.
His beard was made to the beginning
of His Life (Birth, baptism).
His long hair was made of the ending
of His life (Death and Resurrection)
His face was that of a solemn man,
gracious in nature.
His thick eyebrows encourage strength.
His eyes were that of a leader.
His nose was of a person of Wisdom.
His lips were that of a plain human being.
The Top of His head is Paradise.
And all around the story of His life
unfolds. The messages were entwined
but are clear.
The artist is deep.
The viewer of the portrait - I -
am deeply touched by the drawing.
