A Moment of Solace
A MOMENT OF SOLACE
By
JOHN M. ARRIBAS
The shadows grow long at the close of day
Then creep into darkness as the sun slips away
The hopes and dreams that never were
Its endless chapters we need to deter
The trip to oblivion is just moments away
When young men are thrust into the fray
They’ll be remembered by family and friends
Being lost in conflicts that never seem to end
If you spend the day here as many do
Recalling memories may bring solace to you
The sound of taps, Oh lonely sound of the horn
Then the eerie quiet that follows a storm
Time heals wounds that are open to view
Childhood memories no time can undo
This place marks the end of his quest
This is the place where he lies at rest
