A Dark Place - Mental Illness Contest
Jan moved into her home a year ago
Seemed fine and so very happy
she had bought one of the nicest homes
perfect for her and her dogs, who were snappy
I helped her as much as I could.
Drove her from store to store
bought all the things that she wanted
plus possibly a lot more.
Then she suddenly started to smell
As though she hadn’t washed or showered
Wore same clothes all the time
Slept in them, unchanged, for hours
I contacted her daughter
Asked her to call on her mum and see
Said she wasn’t interested
So that left the situation to me
Another neighbour not seeing Jan
called the police, who when smelling her place
read the situation, contacted
Social services who took over the case
Glad to say a year has passed
Jan looks better and smelt clean.
Told me it was a dark place
that immersed her was where she’d been.
A true story, my next door neighbour glad to say she is back and is keeping herself and home clean, a support worker visits her daily.
