A Child's Christmas
Why are they sitting there watching me
Those cheeky elves that sit on a shelf
Are they spying for Santa Claus
Will they say I behaved myself
I love to hold those cheeky elves
Putting them back in a different pose
Their bodies are all bent ready
To sit on a ledge, whichever I chose.
Are they watching me search the wardrobes
Looking for parcels anew
Maybe Santa came early and put some here
Or whatever Santa’s do
The music is playing downstairs
Carols about good tidings and joy
I sing away as I keep up the search
Surely somewhere there’s a brand new toy
It’s Christmas Eve and I try to sleep
Cos that’s what I am told to do
I peep through my lashes at the elves
I am sure they winked back at me too.
