Welcome Spring

through the open door
across my room sunlight spills. . . .
Robin Redbreast trills

the scent of blossoms
carried on April’s warm breeze. . . .
our first hummingbird

among red flowers
where my daughter twirls her skirt . . . .
a butterfly flits

in late afternoon
laughing in our garden spot. . . .
we spy a bluebird

Dare to dream of Wind

He ran away to chase his dreams
Short of a miracle was it not?

Yet the winds of change roared strongly at night
Enter- the fierce winds of time
It will be you alone.

As you dance, I cry
Blow the flowers toward me
Free to drown me now.

Like a DJ on steroids,
I won't allow you to slice through my heart anymore,
My beautiful daughter, Windstream.

Night and Day

constellations burn and comets chase eve’s wild tail- daughter of night life dawn grabs her warm glow song birds sprinkle her with hymns- daughter of new day rubies in earth's eyes each treasured like night and day- eclipse and rainbow * This poem describes my sister and I -our parents always said we were like night and day yet their love for us was equivalent. :) Written for Linda-Marie’s~ Hodgepodge Haiku ~ By Gwendolen Rix 1-25-12

What Species of Humanity Are You?

What species of humanity are you?
Whatever kind you are, you don't worry us.
According to hearsay
you were willing to lay your hands
on small items
deposited by my mother
to the communal account,
close to a bank.
I know that since its existence
Istanbul has changed others.
Some who have gone there wearing worn down shoes
have returned in high heels.
You continue to brush its streets with your skirt.
Mirrors do not show what really happens.
Ah, yes, you forget so quickly
the dusty streets of the sub-prefecture
of your childhood.
This ruse is your currency of the moment.
I know you.
You have swindled your brothers and sisters
with many recoveries.
My daughter, is there nobody to take you by the hair
and demand that you seek out America or Europe?
You have invented a lie to fill your pockets with money.
What species of humanity are you?
Whatever kind you are, you don't worry us.

I'm your little bunny
You're so sweet as honey
Your teeth sparkle

*This is a try at a haiku by my 7 year old daughter given to me on father's day. I know the lines are not right, but I think its cool...
