Welcome Spring

through the open door
across my room sunlight spills. . . .
Robin Redbreast trills

the scent of blossoms
carried on April’s warm breeze. . . .
our first hummingbird

among red flowers
where my daughter twirls her skirt . . . .
a butterfly flits

in late afternoon
laughing in our garden spot. . . .
we spy a bluebird

Blossom

                                              Sweet scented blossom
                                             Confetti sent from heaven
                                                 With a gentle breeze

a ku ku krazy day

a very loud noise
started ringing from my clock—
I fell out of bed

a bumped water glass
rolling across the hard floor—
I slipped on my head

a loud screaming sound
resonated through the house—
my face turned bright red

my husband woke up
hysterically laughing—
I was on the floor

I could not get up
without someone assisting—
ku ku krazy day

I went back to bed
wondering what day it was—
perhaps, tomorrow

Hanakotoba

Words are not enough
Language of April showers
Say it with flowers.

Gracious camellia
Daintily posing, but in vain
Begonia lost in thought.

Desirable
Hopes teeming with ambition
Of a stargazer.

From friendship to love
Exchanging yellow petals
With the deepest red.

Delicate beauty
Of hibiscus in full bloom
Inspires iris.

A blushing lilac
Unaware of dawning day
Dreaming of first love.

Bittersweet flower
Ever loyal to the end
Won’t betray a friend.

Parting time is near
Save the memories within
And forget-me-not.

Yellow hyacinth
With a heart that knows no peace
Nest of jealousy.

Morning breeze scatters
The rich fragrance of jasmine’s
Deep sensuality.

daffodils wilt in summer heat -- a lost friend kite tails fly -- children chase the wind and catch the sun a forgotten swing sways beneath an empty nest -- and ripe, red apples By Rhonda Johnson-Saunders, April 10, 2012 for ????.....!!!!!.....Ku Ku Crazy......!!!!!.....???? Waiting for Spring

An awakened Earth
Lovely March, April and May
Dormant seeds will thrive.

In Spring

Driving home from work, I watch the darkening sky and the trees along the streets bending in the wind. Big drops of rain begin to splatter against my windshield until suddenly, my entire car is being bombarded. As the moaning wind picks up, the downpour increases and I adjust my windshield wipers accordingly. Nearing my neighborhood, I glimpse a foretoken of spring.

behind their mother
young quail scurry in a row. . .
March winds scatter rain

Soon I am pulling into my driveway, wondering vaguely where the baby quail were bound for and relieved to be escaping the onslaught of cold wind-tossed rain. My spirit has been lifted by the sighting of the quail family, for I know better days are ahead. . .

A few weeks pass, and I find myself becoming excited as I always do after April has arrived. I begin noticing the various plants and trees of my small city, in particular, the burgeoning buds of my own front yard pear tree, and then at last it happens; I awake one fine morning to my favorite augur of the season:

outside my window
myriads of white blossoms. . .
the trill of birds
