The Prodigal Child
I walked away, squandered your light. Took the gifts you gave, and threw them out of sight. I rolled in my own bile, swam in the mire with the pigs. I let myself die, battered, bruised, barely able to breathe. As I wallowed in my selfish ways, I decided to try to change my pain, walking home to you, knocking at your door. Papa, please accept me. I'll be your slave, your servant, just help rid me of these fleas. And there you stood, not a scorn or a frown, or how I was expecting you to reject, like the rest of the world judged me. But, a grin and a hug, laughter filled with joy, you pulled me into the house, that I once knew. A feast was prepared, clean clothes brought to me. Oh how this grace lovingly embraced me. I lived the life of the prodigal child, ran away, but here in God's arms again, sheltered by his holy embrace.
