The Red Light On the Tree
Christmas tree lights make a kaleidoscope of colors on this wall of mine In the quiet room I sit and watch, oblivious to the passage of time Alone, I sit and gaze at that one small blinking red light My mind wandering back to that one still star-studded night I find myself in a manger filled with sweet smelling straw The sights, smells, and people overwhelm me; I’m in awe Tentatively, I pass the shepherds and walk to where the Baby lay, He’s giggling, wiggling, and softly crooning in his bed of hay Gently, oh so gently, I pick Him up and hold Him tight His eyes look laughing into mine; they’re so clear and bright. The stable is filled with a serene joyful calm, as the shepherds softly sing their praises in a psalm. At that very moment a sudden change seemed to come over me, I was transported in time and an appalling scene I came to see I found myself standing on a hill which was barren and dry And there I viewed a cross pointing grotesquely to the sky Hanging on that despicable cross was the One that I once knew, The One I’d held as a baby, but his smiles were now through I saw a tear make its way down his tired face In His downcast eyes, sorrow and pain I could trace No sweet crooning, but an anguished groan caught my ear I cringed as they mocked and spat on the One I held dear I sobbed as I took in the blood pouring from his hands The jeering mob drowned my cries with miracle demands Tenderly, I touched His nail pierced feet only to find Blood running down my hands; to all else I was blind His dark crimson blood, the only thing I could see As I looked up again on the red light in the tree I’d been thinking at this time of presents, feasting and fun Forgetting the sacrifice made by God’s only dear Son How could I ignore, on this marvelous great day The One who loves me in truth and shows me the way In that tranquil room, how my faint heart longed for Him The Christmas tree lights blurred, and then they grew dim Oh Jesus, don’t let this Christmas be like before I beg you, come in; don’t stand there at the door Grant me a rebirth; envelope me in your love By your grace, Lord, let me meet you up above Where red is forgotten, all blood stains washed away There at the feet of my Redeemer, my crown I will lay Eileen Manassian CIRCA 1992 Some minor changes.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKSU9Dbxvrw What I was listening to as I was looking for pictures.....When Love was Born.....Amen
