Petey's Magical Lizard
In the tall grass there lived a lizard. His special powers were of a wizard. If you held him in your hand awhile he'd change his color and make you smile. A little fellow name of Petey was thought to be a real sweetie. When his mama sent him out to play he'd run across the fields all day. One day when he was busy exploring he thought he heard somebody snoring. Looking down he spotted the lizard- the colorful one who was a wizard. It was lying feet in the air and gave young Petey quite a scare. Come to find out it was sleeping. In these fields his bed was keeping. Petey picked it up and said "I think I will name you Fred" To his surprise the lizard talked then got up on his legs and walked. It said " you see I am a wizard I'm not your ordinary lizard!" It walked a couple of inches and stopped then into the air it jumped and hopped. Petey was amazed and happy and wanted to go tell his pappy. But the lizard spoke and said "don't tell. It's our secret and just as well. If others knew I couldn't stay. They'd want to put me on display. Then I would lose my happy home and no longer be free to roam." Reluctantly Petey agreed and the lizard's wishes he did heed. So home he went without his new friend; never did he anyone send to see this magical talking lizard with powers like that of a wizard. for contest"Tell Me A Story" sponsored by Heather Secrest
