The Captain of the Arrogant
The Captain of the Arrogant I wonder where that old man's from who looks out from the glass, The history that's on his face Reveals a troubled past His weary eyes though bright and blue Are burning full of tears, As if they're overflowing With his sin throughout the years I wonder if he knows the pain Of all he's said and done, To others whom he claimed to love Who's lives he left undone? The captain of the arrogant And master of his pride, He's just like all the rest of us If we would look inside His flaming, sinful, passions of his youth Now just an ember, I wonder if this old man Has the courage to remember? That everything you say and do In this life has a cost, And the future is forever, But the past forever lost... As I look closer at this man And ponder at his past, I realize this old man is me Inside the looking glass And yes, I do remember All the wicked things I've done, But I've given them to Jesus And He's forgiven every one The tears I shed are tears of joy That I let freely flow, Because I know my destination Is where He would have me go The Destroyer of my arrogance The killer of my pride, He took away my heart of stone And put a heart of flesh inside Yes I know where the old man's from Who looks out from the glass, But he's heading toward the future And letting Jesus have the past
