Nasty Fog
“You're really not going out in that stuff!” The hotel clerk asked in amazement Not being familiar with Tennessee fog Wondered why was he questioning my intent “The truckers don't even travel in that It gets as thick as pea soup around here If you want my advice, I'd wait for a while Should be an hour or so 'fore it clears” Thanked him but told him I had no choice Had to be in Tampa, before midnight “Well, don't say I didn't warn you, my friend” Started thinking, “Hey, maybe he's right!” But off I go, and as I enter the Interstate His words came roaring back in my ears Actually couldn't see the car in front Suddenly I'm overcome with fear It was then my world came crashing down A blinding flash, an indescribable pain Now I'm sending this warning from above As I exist on a much higher plain “You're really not going out in that stuff!” Should have listened and taken his advice So here I am up here looking down Thinking, “Oh well, I had a good life!” © Jack Ellison 2013
