Riding the Eye
Never felt such trepidation Lost in black mountains Crashing over the port house Suddenly underneath Blasting through the surface Into the maelstroms wrath In power tossing the little craft Of sticks and tack and glue Coming apart the brine leaking Away the hope of six men Fighting the seas head on Ranges of breakers smashing Glass giving way to the Atlantic Oceans of souls lost within A watery grave beckoning Softly fighting for breath Heaving for a chest full Of wind with rain rolling Over the trawler on her side Racked and stressed moaning In terror begging to any god Forgive the ignorance made Calculating the way home Where she is standing on the point Of desperation looking beyond The edge boiling over Capsized and taking on water Filling each compartment Where I lock my wishes away From the coast of the Cape Covering me as a death shroud Over the eyes of the onlookers Of the mast lights Going out the in the final trip To the bottom descending From heaven... I shall protect you
