Masquerade
Dawn crept through tears in the curtain, dancing on my sleepless eyes. With leaden limbs I drag myself from the confines of my material tomb Facing a reflection not recognised, I endeavour to build my camouflage. Laying the foundations for another day Lock the door on my lonely nightmare, step into the shuffling crowd. This herd of masquerading people, of which I am now one. Senseless smile plastered thick, casting false happiness into starving maw of casual friendships. Twinkle in my eye, a reflection through tears unshed. Joyful banter forced around this ever present lump in my throat. Sweating contentment, while my heart drives pure sorrow through my veins. All the time playing the fool in this costume party of life Returning to this house I call home. Strip the cocoon, with each wipe of cleansing cream eradicating the shell penning me in. The shop window mannequin resting in jars and creams, waiting for the display tomorrow. Crawling into un-made bed of twisted sheets, fractured thoughts. Knife seems a better option than this.
