Elegy Over the Death of An Unrequited Lover
He lay dampened By his overflowing emotions, His touch buried him Even deeper inside, Every breath seemed heavy And every memory Beat him to his core; The pain lashed at him, He sought the Divine Wanting nothing but the Light-- The light of true faith, Expecting at any moment For something to change... But nothing seemed to happen: The Gods seemed to mock him-- Laugh at his being-- His wishes were never granted: Sinking as a ship-- Tormented as a boat on troubled waters, And still holding on To the last vestiges of some belief... Hoping it would change To something that would save him From being buried, From drowning-- He was burning In his depths... Though his feelings dampened the effect, He struggled still in pain Writhing, and finally tried to rise But was strangled By the same desire for a certain truth; The impossible never happened And he left in dismay: He died a painful death in faith... The divine intervention was all he wanted, A return of emotions was what he sought; A struggle was all he repented, For Peace he never got; His wishes went away in the coffin With questions he could never ask; The last of the nails looked heavily laden, Was beaten into his cask....
