The Tower of Babel
God had directed man To disperse throughout the earth, But instead they built a city, So Babel was given birth. This magnificent tower Reached way up to the heavens; A monument of man’s power For later generations. The dwellers on the Plain of Shinar Disbelieved God’s promise. That He’d never send another flood; The rainbow’s promise served this purpose. In defiance they built the tower; Complete rebellion reigned; Lead them into idolatry, For which Babel was famed. All work came to a standstill; Their languages God confounded. Sent lightening from heaven; The top of this tower grounded. God scattered his people abroad To stop the spirit of murmuring. They hated their Creator Who prevented their laboring. In his wonderful mercy, God destroyed the Babel Tower. Instead of destroying His children, He simply showed them his mighty power.
