The Last Run
As we pulled out of Indiana, Headed onto that long highway, We would ride into the sunrise; Searching all the lost by-ways. The wonders that we saw Still haunt my soul at times, As with many other writings, You must read between these lines. I'd known you since our childhood, And we were pushing 45, But going faster was the time; As we took that last long ride. The doctors said "just weeks", And I was so sick too; But your request was my blessing, I'd do anything for you. We camped under the moon, God's stars shone on our sleep; And you gave your heart to Jesus, For Him to safely keep. Out in Phoenix Arizona, You took your last earthly breath; And your soul went home to Jesus, There was victory in death. Oh, the heartache that I felt, And still feel it today; I guess it will be with me Somewhere inside, always. "D", you know I love you, Just wait on "Be My" son; I'll expect a good long hug, When I make my final run. Pokey 2011
