Lost Souls
It’s time to say goodnight to morning, And leave this room now bleak from mourning. Lay to rest the darkness holding, On to light where shadows are forming. I saw the ancient windows closing Around the pictures they were showing While sewing suits for lonely brides They were dying themselves on the inside Take my hand and ill take your heart Hope we’ll never be apart Again, we lose control and we lost our way Watching people telling us what to do or say I asked you to catch my breath But instead you stayed in bed and caught your death So I went out and grabbed the moon He said he’d tell you that I will see you soon Keeping close to broken glass Finding a reflection in everything they pass Held so tight it bled right through Staining everything a shade of murky blue You were a fool when you spoke your mind You weren’t smart when you spoke your heart each time But you looked at them with penetrating lies Burning holes in the center of their eyes But you put on a face and walk into crowded rooms Where everybody is wearing the face of gloom Make them live in memory Turn them into emery. But what’s the use of living a past life If it allows you to re live the same old strife Moving up from caste to caste That’s the harm of living in the past
