Chains of Sleep
This poem is dedicated to my loving dad who has helped me through a lot of "spiritual sleep" I love you dad. My spirit drifted off, and fell asleep, The slumber it's in, is very deep. The light has left, everything's black, It's very dark. I can't find my way back. My heart is fragile, easy to break, Crafted of thin paper, neatly taped. Emotion is nothing, feling so numb, My heart still beats a steady drum. Looking for a savior to finally wake me, Remember? I'm fragile, please don't break me. The chains of sleep gently fell over, Now I'm lost in fields of dreamy clover. I see your gentle hands, coming to the rescue, I can't even express how much I want to thank you. You reached in, found my spirit somewhere deep, Lifted it up, and destroyed the chains of sleep. Now I'm awake, feeling so aware! Looking back on how long I was really there. It's hard to imagine how dead I really felt, And part of the reason was, because I never knelt. Now I know what I must do, what I have to say; Gratitude to God, ask blessings, and pray. Ask for forgiveness, try to become one, I can't fall asleep under the rays of the sun.
