Day's Diary
Cho: O friends forgive my hiatus that I wandered away I miss the poetrysoup, and here is my life's lay. My soul has come to rest at a dismal place Where the winds no longer ripple the sea The calmness of the water is not for grace The screaming storm was much better to me But I have learnt to bide my time To keep my shadow away from the hot sun And carry the cross for history's crime The doldrums dawdles wherever eyes may run. Hence I am kept imprisoned from the soup Of poetry, and friends my eyes long to caress And walk in sorrow beyond the ken of group Beyond the meter brimming in my breast I carry my song with a hope eternal and strong I carry it like river collecting from its frets And O companions how my bondage soul long To sip your teas and dance your soft minuets. A man should not be broken so by the poverty Of the times, should not be stripped of all he earned Should not have to let house go for misery Should not for bread and shelter in old age yearn These are evil times that strip the soul of all Yet will not concede my hope, nor trade my dream Pride is all I have to dilute the taste of gall And songs to sing when my diminished days would scream.
