Because You Gave Me Your Home – An Open Poem
i’ve saved seven lives in six homes i’ve lived and had mine saved in one we took to the path to the trees we took to the call to ‘the spot’ He showed up, in that quiet way he does You were mad, she left you. . . you called to say you’d get your gun She took it all, she left you. . . you’d bullet her then bullet you I made it there I saved you we’d see him again we’d come to the car window, corner or church He showed up, in that quiet way he does You were frightened, he stalked you. . . . you called to say he’d been there He came too close, he stalked you. . . you’d describe his hands, not his face I made it there I saved you You were embarrassed, he beat you. . . you called your daughter to your arms He threatened to kill, he screamed at you. . . you let her go after I made it there I saved you You were sad, wanted the end. . . you called to say you wanted to leave you You couldn’t understand, couldn’t see value. . . you took a moment I made it there I saved you
